The act defines what counts as game (among the species covered here: red deer, fallow deer, roe deer, wild boar, mouflon, red fox, golden jackal, European hare, pheasant and mallard), how hunting grounds are formed and who the hunting-ground user is.

It regulates game management planning, hunting statistics and the structure of the Slovak Hunting Chamber (Slovenská poľovnícka komora). The hunting exam and the hunting licence are handled by the chamber (sections 50 and 51), while hunting permits involve the ground user and state authorities.

Under section 57, hunting of feathered game with a season, wolf and golden jackal during the protected period may be allowed by the ministry on specific grounds. Detailed seasons are set by the implementing decree. The version read is the one in force from 1 June 2026 (amended by 73/2026 Z. z.).

For information only. The text of the law in force and local decisions of the game manager and hunting authority (e.g. extra protection, extensions) prevail.
