9,3×74 R
9.3×74 R · 9,3 x 74 R
A large-bore rimmed cartridge for break-action guns (double rifles, drillings), originating around 1900. Its heavy bullet gives good penetration at moderate velocity.
The 9.3×74 R took shape around the turn of the 20th century for break-action guns. The CIP data sheet gives a maximum pressure of 3,400 bar and a case length of 74.7 mm.
Bullets of 232–285 grain (15–19 g) leave the muzzle at roughly 600–700 m/s. The large bullet and rimmed case suit double rifles and similar guns.
Hunting use
Used from break-action guns on red deer and wild boar, especially on driven hunts at short and medium range. Typical bullet weights are 232–285 grain (15–19 g). Excessive for roe deer.
