The RWS name goes back to the Rheinisch-Westfälische Sprengstoff-Fabriken of 1886, with roots in Heinrich Uttendoerffer's Nuremberg ignition-charge laboratory. After Dynamit Nobel ownership (from 1931) it became part of RUAG Ammotec. RWS describes itself as European market leader in hunting ammunition.
