8×57 IRS
8×57 JRS · 8mm Mauser peremes
The rimmed version of the 8×57 IS, for break-action rifles. The CIP maximum pressure (3,300 bar) is lower than that of the rimless cartridge.
The 8×57 IRS is the rimmed counterpart of the 8×57 IS, made for break-action guns (double rifles, drillings, combination guns). According to the CIP data sheet its maximum pressure is 3,300 bar, against 3,900 bar for the rimless IS.
The two are therefore not directly comparable: the IRS is loaded more moderately.
Hunting use
Used from break-action guns on red deer, fallow deer, wild boar, mouflon and roe deer. Typical bullet weights are 123–196 grain (8.0–12.7 g). The IS and IRS are not interchangeable; always follow the marking on the rifle.
