Winchester's 1925 cartridge, made by necking the .30-06 case down to 7 mm. A fast, flat-shooting cartridge favoured in open country.
The .270 Winchester was introduced by Winchester in 1925 for the Model 54 rifle. In practice it is a .30-06 Springfield case necked down to take a 7 mm (.277 in) bullet.
Bullets of 130–150 grain (8.4–9.7 g) leave the muzzle at about 900–950 m/s with a flat trajectory.
Hunting use
Used on red deer, fallow deer, roe deer, wild boar and mouflon, especially in open country and at longer range. Typical bullet weights are 130–180 grain (8.4–11.7 g).
