Hunting in Slovakia is governed by Act 274/2009 on hunting and its implementing Decree 344/2009; hunting licences are issued by the regional chambers of the Slovak Hunting Chamber.

The legal basis is Act No. 274/2009 Z. z. on hunting (zákon o poľovníctve), implemented by Decree No. 344/2009 Z. z. of the Ministry of Agriculture. Section 71 of the decree sets the hunting seasons (čas lovu) and section 72 adds special rules.

Authorities: state hunting administration is exercised by the ministry and the district offices (okresný úrad). The hunting-ground user (užívateľ poľovného revíru) manages game under a hunting management plan, and taking game requires a hunting permit (povolenie na lov zveri).

Licence and exam: the hunting licence (poľovný lístok) is issued, extended and withdrawn by the regional chamber (obvodná komora) for the applicant's place of residence. Applicants must pass the hunting exam (skúška uchádzača o poľovný lístok) organised by the chamber; foreigners can obtain a separate type of licence.
